New Hampshire Child Support Services

In the state of New Hampshire, child support cases are handled by the Division of Child Support Services (DCSS) through the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services. DCSS offers many services to parents who qualify, including:

Locating the non-custodial parent

If the parent responsible for paying child support is missing, DCSS may be able to find him or her through a number of different locating resources including new hire reporting directories and credit bureaus.

Establishing paternity

Legal paternity must be established in order to initiate a child support order. DCSS can help by providing Affidavit of Paternity forms or by requesting a paternity test through a court order.

Establishing child support orders

New Hampshire child support orders include financial support and medical support. The financial support orders are based on the Child Support Guidelines set forth in New Hampshire law. Medical support orders must meet the standard of “reasonable cost” at 4% of the non-custodial parent’s gross income.

Enforcing court orders

In order to collect child support from non-paying non-custodial parents, DCSS can withhold wages, intercept tax returns and lottery winnings, revoke driver’s licenses, report them to the credit bureau, place a lien on their assets, and deny their passport.

Collecting and distributing child support payments

DCSS disburses financial support to custodial parents after receiving the monies from the non-custodial parent. DCSS will usually mail child support payments within two business days.
