California Child Support Calculator

To use the child support calculator, select or enter the appropriate information next to each statement.

When you have completed the form, click on the calculate button to get an estimate of the amount of child support that the non-custodial parent will have to pay to the custodial parent in California.

Please remember that these calculators are for informational and educational purposes only.  The amount of child support a court will order for any particular case may be different from the amount estimated by the calculator.

For the most part these calculators assume that all of the children will primarily live with one parent.  It is not intended to estimate situations where there is joint physical custody or split custody.

These calculators do not take into account any possible adjustments for children who are not subject to the custody order but who are living with one of the parents.

These factors and others may affect a child support order entered by a court.

What to do if you need Help Collecting Child Support in California

Child support orders are legally-binding documents that obligate a non-custodial parent to provide monthly financial support for his or her child/ren. In California, there is a statewide formula that is used to calculate the amount of child support a non-custodial parent owes a custodial parent. The child support formula takes into account how much money each parent makes, additional income either parent may receive, how many children are in need of support, how much time each parent spends with his or her child/ren, health insurance expenses, daycare expenses and additional information that you can learn about at http://www.courtinfo.ca.gov/selfhelp/family/support/intro.htm.

If you have a child support order in place, but are having difficulty collecting the support that you are entitled to, it is important to discuss your situation with your Local Child Support Agency (LCSA). The LCSA can help enforce child support orders even if the non-custodial parent lives in a different state.

Some of the options available for enforcing a child support order include:

  • Wage Garnishment
  • Intercepting income tax returns, unemployment benefits, workers’ compensation benefits, lottery winnings and other forms of state aid
  • License suspension (i.e., hunting license, professional license, driver’s license, etc.)
  • Passport denials

Other options for enforcing child support may be available as well. Talk to your LCSA or enlist the assistance of an attorney to help you collect the money you need to support your child.

If you do not have a child support order in place and would like to know a likely estimate of monthly child support, check out the child support calculators at www.AllLaw.com. These calculators take the California child support guidelines into account to give you accurate estimates of child support in places like San Diego, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Oakland, Sacramento and elsewhere throughout the state.
